AWeber’s Facebook Web Form App

AWeber's API and Forms on Facebook
If you follow the AWeber blog, or use our service, you may already know some of the ways you can sync your email marketing to your Facebook page.

But until now, to get an web form on Facebook, you’ve had to work with HTML. It was doable, but building your email list on Facebook should be easier.

So we built you an AWeber Facebook app.

It puts your AWeber form on your Facebook page in just a few clicks – take a look.

What Makes This App Different

Just like installing an AWeber web form on a WordPress blog was possible before we announced our Web Form Widget for WordPress, it’s possible to install a web form on a Facebook page without our app. However, the app makes the process a lot smoother.

Rather than copying and pasting HTML or Javascript, you just choose the form you want to install from a dropdown menu. You can swap forms just as easily if you want to make a change later.

Start Building Your Email List On Facebook

If you want to jump in with both feet, you can start by adding the AWeber Email Marketing app to your Facebook page.

On the other hand, if you want to take things one step at a time, check out our knowledge base article, or just watch the video below:

  1. Wow, that was easy! Thank you. I had found another “back door” way to include a newsletter sign-up list and it was much more difficult and didn’t look nearly as profession. Thanks again for staying at the head of the curve.

  4. Pretty simple. We shall see if it leads to opt ins but it certainly can’t hurt. Nice work!

This seems very involved with lots of steps and they don’t seem very intuitive. I know you probably worked very hard on this but couldn’t you have made it simpler?

@ Terri. Same as here and as everybody else. This is way easier than before.

  7. Too funny. I spent the morning trying to do html / fbml for facebook at http://goo.gl/7Lw5h and then I get this email. I will go re-do it the better way now with the facebook app!

@leonard, the short answer is no.
The process of integrating this solution as an app is a standard provided by facebook and is for all apps install to a page and not just the aweber app.
The only alternative is to code the html into an iframed page which would still require the install of an appear which concludes with double the work.

  10. At this moment the new Aweber app isn’t working as it should be. No connection can be made at the moment. Overloaded maybe? :)
For the rest it looks amazing, and precise what i was looking for.

I got an error message when I went to the “go to app” part
“To access this page, you’ll need to switch from using Facebook as your page to using Facebook as yourself”

    any ideas?

Is there a way to add more than one signup for multiple lists/email campaigns?

  17. Nice work, aweber!

I’ve noticed you guys have added quite a bit to your social aspect of email lists. I wanted to offer a suggestion:

Could you integrate with Ping.fm? I love the fact they’re able to message so many different social media platforms and thought it would be a GREAT fit for you guys!

    5/13/2011 2:14 am
  18. Nice and easy to setup guys, thanks.

I just added one of my forms here:
    http://www.facebook.com/CrashCourseMuso
    Free Guitar Lessons

Quick question, can you or do you know how to add content to the sign up page?

Having just the form there looks a little bare and it would be great to provide a little more info as to why they should sign up and perhaps add an interesting graphic to help put the point across. Any ideas?

    Many thanks in advance.

  19. Gary, Dave, Paul and Frank ~ On the top right of your FB page, you’ll see the option to use Facebook as ‘your business page’ or as ‘your name’. Make sure you’re not using Facebook as your business page, or the app won’t work.

If you’re still experiencing problems, we are getting reports of intermittent issues, and we’re working on them. If you like, you can give us a call at 877-293-2371 and we’ll see what we can do to help in the meantime.

Leonard & Azzam ~ Exactly; the complication comes from there being two systems involved.

David ~ You can only install one form per page with this app – so pick the strongest one associated with your brand!

Phill ~ That involves editing within Facebook itself; this tutorial should help. http://www.ducttapemarketing.com/blog/2011/01/26/adding-custom-content-to-facebook-pages/

  20. I have an organization page and a regular facebook page (my name), but I don’t have a business page. What kind of page do I need to put the app on? I have tried logging in on both pages and neither work?

    Thanks for your help

    5/13/2011 10:45 am
  21. I do not see the option to use Facebook as your business page. Instead what I see is. Use Facebook as page. I’ve clicked the button. Un-clicked it. removed the app, Re-installed the app. And it still ain’t working

  23. Thank you for contacting me in a timely fashion. I had an issue trying to install the app, the sign in page wouldn’t come up for some reason. (Same issue as Farmer Dave)
Anyway, the issue has been resolved and my Newsletter sign up page looks great.

  24. No more need to copy long long lines of codes and very cool to be able to just choose the list form the drop down. But I’ll have to play with it a little to see how to add in other text/images.

Farmer Dave, a Facebook Business Page is just the Facebook Fan Page – it is used for business purpose (promotion dtc).

Your profile account is for personal use and it not technically referred to as Page in the Facebook terminology.

Let’s hope I have not further confused you. :-)

  36. In the instructional video on this page it says “On the page you’re watching this video on, click the link that reads ‘View the AWeber app.’” However, I’m not watching the video on Facebook, I’m watching it on THIS page, on AWeber!!! Therefore, none of the instructions in the video are valid!

  41. In response to you question “what could the next AWeber app be?” I suggest an app to integrate AWeber into Google+ (unless it exists already and/or I just haven’t found it yet).

This Facebook app is great and very simple to set up.

    12/21/2011 5:24 am
  42. Thanks guys. The instructions changed ever so slightly because there’s a step when you need to switch back to your profile in order to authorize the app which you guys need to include in the video. Most people will figure this out but it will minimize confusion for folks like me who need a lot of hand holding through anything dealing with Facebook! LOL!
You might also want to remind people to move the Aweber app up in the list of apps to be sure it’s visible on the list. I think we all want to move it up to a more prominent spot than the default which is on the bottom of the list.

    Thanks!

  45. With the new Timeline layout for business pages, the Custom Tab Name is no longer working in the “Edit Settings” for this aWeber Facebook Web Form App. It used to work (as I had made the change). I want to shorten the tab name from what I used to have so that it is not cut off in the new layout.

The Custom Image in the Edit Settings IS working properly (I was able to successfully change the image to a new one).

It is just the Text field that is not saving. I enter the new text, click save, but nothing happens.

  47. The page in the video looks like the ‘old style of a Facebook fan page.” I tried installing the AWeber app twice and it didn’t work for me. I wasn’t allowed to keep viewing my page using my Facebook fan page. A “pop up” box appeared with a message about using my ‘personal Facebook page’ instead. Bummer!

    4/29/2012 8:29 am
  48. Amanda – You can still install the app with Timeline, the steps are just a little different.

Check out the written instructions on using the app with Facebook’s new Timeline layout here:
