AWeber Generation MEdia Tool Reveals Texting, Email Are Most Frequently Used Forms of Communication for Millennials
Interactive Tool has More Than 90 Million Data Points to Explore and Share
Chalfont, Pa. April 21, 2014 – AWeber, the global email marketing software company, released today Generation MEdia, an interactive digital research tool. Based on survey responses from 1342 millennials from across the country, the tool allows users to explore what millennials are doing online and how and when they are communicating with family, friends, brands and more. In total, Generation MEdia enables users to explore more than 90 million data points.
Among the more interesting findings the tool reveals is that despite social media’s rising popularity, older forms of communication such as texting and email are more frequently used communication channels. More than three-quarters (76 percent) said they text at different points all day and 55 percent said they use email all day. Only 38 percent and 25 percent respectively said they use Facebook and Twitter as frequently.
“What you see when you look at the data from this tool is that some of the preconceived notions we have about millennials may not be entirely accurate, while in other areas they are validated,” said AWeber CMO, Erik Harbison. “Either way, it provides a wealth of information in how millennials are interacting with the world and how they like to communicate.”
Among the less surprising statistics revealed by the tool is that newspapers, phone calls and postal mail are dying communication mediums for millennials. Nearly two-thirds (65 percent) of respondents said they spend less than one hour per week reading magazines and newspapers. Nearly half (49 percent) spend less than one hour per week making phone calls. Finally, more than one-third (36 percent) said they do not use postal mail at all.
In addition to providing individual data points, the tool allows users to compare at least two fields of information in three different categories; time per week spent on an activity, communication preferences and the time of day various communication tools are used. Users can easily share information from the Generation MEdia tool by clicking on an individual data point and tweeting that statistic out to followers.
